Gift Aid
By allowing us to reclaim Gift Aid on your behalf you can make your donation worth more.
For every pound you give to us, we get an extra 25 pence from the Inland Revenue—you must pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax that the charity reclaims on your donations in the tax year.
To be able to do this we will ask you to make a simple declaration saying that you want to reclaim Gift Aid.
This declaration can be made in writing. You can download a Gift Aid declaration form (1-page/141KB PDF) or by email or orally—a copy of the form will be sent to you if you indicate your intention for Gift Aid to be applied for.
If you prefer there are other ways you can give to the RCF.
Giving to the RCF through your payslip or pensions
Payroll Giving allows you to make donations to charity directly from your pay, or from your company or personal pension.
The donations are made after your National Insurance contributions are calculated but before Income Tax is worked out and deducted.
Because of this you only pay tax on what is left.
This means that you get tax relief on your donation immediately—and at your highest rate of tax.
Giving assets to the RCF
You can claim tax relief and, as a result, lower your tax bill; if you—
- Give qualifying shares
- Sell these to the RCF at less than their market value
Qualifying shares include those listed on any stock exchange.
Capital gains tax relief
You will get relief from Capital Gains Tax when you—
- Give any asset to the RCF
- Sell any asset to the RCF for less than its market value
Other methods of making donations
- You may consider leaving a bequest to the charity in your will—its value will be deducted from your estate before Inheritance Tax is worked out
- Or through fund raising events or club events
- Or of course you may make a donation at any time
In these cases please advise the treasurer of your donation or intention so that we can ensure it is directed to the charity’s bank account and that acknowledgement letters are sent out quickly.
